So… what is this cassette week all about?

Great question!

Cassette Week is a week long event for bands, labels, stores and fans to come together and celebrate the beloved cassette! There will be a bunch of exclusive tape releases planned to come out Oct 15th-21st along with events in-store and online from participating shops and bands. Cassette Week is currently only in North America, but we welcome all countries to sign up and we will celebrate your releases in some way.

Cassette Week is run by Tapehead City.

FAQs

How do i sign up my store or release?

Whether you have a store or a release you must sign up through our online form. Once signed up you will receive a list with all participating stores and labels with necessary info. First round of announcements will be Sept 4th and the final announcement will be Oct 2nd. The deadline to sign up is Sept 29th. You will receive an email with all necessary info within those dates. This year there is an optional donation of $5 to sign-up. Late submissions won’t be included on the website, but feel free to still celebrate on your own with a Cassette Week release or event.

We are focusing on North American stores & releases this year, but international releases can still sign up to be mentioned on the site.

Where can i press tapes?

We recommend National Audio Company & Duplication.ca for all cassette duplication needs.

Where will Cassette Week releases and events be happening?

Releases will be available at participating retail and online stores. The list of stores will be listed on this site. Check with your local shop to see what they have going on and what they will be offering. While in-store events may not be possible this year again due to covid-19 we urge everyone to consider platforms like zoom and facebook live to celebrate in their own way.

If you have an event planned, email us and we will list it on the site.

Promotion?

Cassette Week is and independently run even so we really need every band, label, store & fan to help spread the word. This is not Record Store Day with big money behind it. Theres actually no money behind it haha. So the success will really be driven by the love and passion everyone puts into it. Tag your social media posts with #cassetteweek and #cassetteweek2023 so we can all connect and find each other.

Make sure to also follow @cassetteweek & @tapeheadcity on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter to stay in the loop!

What happened to Cassette Store Day?

Due to the serious allegations surrounding Burger Records, Cassette Store Day (CSD) 2020, was cancelled. You can see the official statement here from CSD UK https://cassettestoredayuk.com.

A few things to note:

  • We at Tapehead City have no affiliation with Burger Records and stand in solidarity with the survivors.

  • Cassette Store Day was not started by Burger Records, they only helped organize the North American branch.

  • Cassette Store Day was founded in London by a group of labels in 2013, Blak Hand Records (UK) and Side-B Creations (JP).

Tapehead City wanted to provide a way to connect the record stores with labels that were planning CSD releases that year. We spoke with CSD UK, and they gave us their blessing to do so. So this is what we came up with. It’s been a work in progress, but it’s a start. There will be no Cassette Store Day again this year so Cassette Week is back!
